After secondary school Emiel became a non-commissioned officer in the Corps of Signals of the Royal Netherlands Navy. After a two-year internal training period he served on the frigate HNLMS Piet Hein for four years.
He took an evening course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Economics and then went on to study tax law at LeidenUniversity. After completing the three-year professional diploma programme of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers (NOB) Emiel took various specialist international tax law courses at the InternationalTaxCenter in Leiden and BNA International in London.
Emiel is a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers (NOB), the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and the European American Tax Institute (EATI) and plays an active role in the MSI Global Alliance.
Emiel’s clients are regional small and medium-sized businesses as well as a number of medium-sized companies operating in the international arena. Because of his specialist knowledge and expertise he is the primary point of contact and source of information, both internally and externally, for cross-border corporate tax issues such as the participation exemption, group taxation, thin capitalization rules and loss carry-over facilities.
